Much has changed since 1987, when we were founded, but the focus on innovation and entrepreneurship has not - it is as relevant today as it was then.

The story of Dalarna Science Park begins with the steel crisis of the 1980s and a municipal request for government support - to create new jobs and build for the future.

Borlänge received its government funding and was able to start shaping a completely new business: Teknikdalen, a center for research and business development, what would later become Dalarna Science Park.

The inauguration of the newly built Teknikdalen building was held in 1987, and a foundation of the same name was established in the same year.

The following year, a research and development program aimed at small and medium-sized enterprises was launched, financed by the Ministry of Industry, Stora, SSAB, Vägverket, Sparbanken Dalarna and Borlänge Municipality.

For the first seven years, the focus was on transport and intelligent transport systems, but in 1995, Sweden's membership of the EU changed the game. This resulted in, among other things, increased international exchanges, many regional development projects and the start of a business incubator.

In 2018, Teknikdalen changed its name to Dalarna Science Park. The name change came about partly to clarify the focus of the business and the connection to other science parks in the world, and partly to mark that Dalarna Science Park is now the entire Dalarna innovation arena.

Today, Dalarna Science Park focuses primarily on sustainability, innovation and internationalization.
