Funding for innovative startups in our incubator

Verification grants (VFI grants) give startups in our incubator the opportunity to fund external expert services to test business-critical assumptions, enabling you to make better decisions regarding investment, partnerships, or market entry.

The funding is used to reduce uncertainty regarding the company’s development. This may involve testing customer needs, the market, technology, or the business model. The focus is on determining what actually works before moving forward, not on building fully developed solutions.

To be eligible to apply, the company must be part of the incubator and meet the criteria for Vinnova’s incubation support, such as being an innovative and scalable early-stage startup.

What are verification tools?

Verification grants are government-funded innovation grants for early-stage startups.

They are used to:

  • test hypotheses
  • reduce risk
  • provide a basis for decision-making

The support is intended to help identify what works, not to provide ready-made solutions.

What can you receive support for?

You can use verification tools to identify the areas of greatest uncertainty in your company:

Understand your market

  • Is this a real problem?
  • Who is the right customer?
  • Is anyone willing to pay?

For example, customer interviews, market tests, and segment analysis

Verify technology or functionality

  • Does the solution work in practice?
  • Is it suitable for the right environment and use?

For example, tests, measurements, pilot environments, prototypes for testing purposes

Secure your position

  • Is the solution secure?
  • What is your competitive advantage?

For example, IP strategy, legal analysis

See how you're perceived

  • Do customers understand what you offer?
  • Which message works best?

For example, testing the pitch, positioning, or concept

What kinds of expenses are not eligible for reimbursement?

To avoid any misunderstanding:

Verification funds do not cover:

  • product or system development
  • ready-made brands or visual identities
  • ongoing marketing
  • internal costs

Rule of thumb:
If the activity leads to a finished solution, it is not verification.
