How to make an industrial city climate neutral?

People taking part in workshops

How do you make an industrial city like Borlänge climate neutral? This question will now be an innovation team consisting of business, organizations and associations to find new innovative solutions. The innovation team in Borlänge will be led by Ann-Louise Larsson and Anna Torsgården at Dalarna Science Park.

The work is part of Climate Neutral Borlänge 2030 and Borlänge's participation in Viable Cities, where companies and organizations, together with the municipality and municipal companies, have entered into a partnership to make Borlänge climate neutral by 2030. Now they will take the lead and find new innovative solutions to accelerate the climate transition.

Dalarna Science Park will lead the innovation part of the project, where a team will jointly develop new solutions and proposals on howhow Borlänge's climate impact can be reduced. The innovation team includes representatives from Borlänge Municipality, Borlänge Energi, Dalarna University, 2047 Science Center, SSAB, IKEA, IK Brage, Tunabyggen, Hushagen, Maserfrakt, Din Bil and Rolf Ericsson Bil.

- The innovation team will together identify the biggest common and individual climate challenges for Borlänge and based on these we will work out solutions and proposals that will take Borlänge to climate neutrality. The ideas that emerge will be initiatives and activities that take us towards climate neutrality and at least three initiatives will be tested, implemented and evaluated before 2024, says Anna Torsgården, project manager at Dalarnas Science Park.

On April 11, the team gathered at Dalarnas Science Park for a first kick-off meeting to start the work.

- We from Dalarna Science Park think it is important to work in innovation processes together with business, organizations and associations to contribute to a climate-neutral Borlänge. It is when participants meet from several industries with different experiences and knowledge that new ideas are created, which leads to new innovative solutions, says Ann-Louise Larsson project manager at Dalarnas Science Park.
