Dalarna Science Park conducts projects in several areas of activity aimed at promoting innovation and entrepreneurship in Dalarna. This means, among other things, that Dalarna Science Park regularly carries out activities aimed at finding smart and viable business ideas among the people of Dalarna.
Ideas competitions
Business ideas that can be the basis for companies that contribute to Dalarna's future growth can come from many different directions. To find these potential entrepreneurs, Dalarna Science Park organizes a number of initiatives. One example of such an activity is the idea competition "I have an idea", which was held for the first time this year. The event was organized by Dalarna Science Park in collaboration with Sparbanksstiftelsen Dalarna and NyföretagarCentrum. The aim of the competition is to promote entrepreneurship and innovation. This year's winners all presented business ideas that solve major societal problems. The ideas are all considered to have international potential.
A billion reasons
Other ways that Dalarna Science Park uses to secure future regional growth is to bring companies into the incubator. There, companies are given the opportunity to develop their business idea in a structured way, under both management and coaching, with the aim of creating a long-term sustainable company. When the companies in the incubator make their exit, they are considered ready to fly. The companies must be able to stand on their own two feet and continue to build their business. Dalarna Science Park's incubator is currently the only one in Dalarna. Since the incubator was started in 2004, a total of 169 companies have made an exit. Most of these companies are now very healthy and continue to operate in Dalarna. In 2022, the turnover of these incubator companies, both those that have exited and the current ones, totaled SEK 1 billion. An impressive sum that shows the importance of regional efforts to capture regional entrepreneurial power. In addition, these incubator companies contributed a total of SEK 200 million to the Swedish state in tax revenue that year.
Benefit for already existing
Dalarna Science Park also conducts activities aimed at helping existing companies in Dalarna to grow. This is done within the framework of various programs that companies can apply to participate in. It can be about supporting the development of existing business ideas, converting to a digitized world or making the business greener. Regardless of the challenge, an accepted company receives help with guidance and mentoring as well as the opportunity to find new partners in other existing companies. Dalarna Science Park thus becomes an enabler for many companies to not only keep up with developments but also strengthen their business in the long term, which benefits growth throughout Dalarna.
