The SKAPA award in Dalarna County was awarded on Tuesday, October 22. This year's prize winner is Pontus Lindberg from the company Svepreg, who is being rewarded for his innovative method for timber measurement.
The SKAPA prize is Sweden's largest innovation competition. In the competition, 24 regional winners are selected who go on to the grand national final which will be held in Stockholm on November 14.
The award ceremony in the dala final was held on 22 October in connection with the opening of Dalarna Innovation Day at Dalarna University in Borlänge. Here, the winner Pontus Lindberg received SEK 10,000 and a final ticket from Dalarna's governor Helena Höij.
Pontus Linberg is rewarded for its new, more accurate and user-friendly method for measuring timber, which makes it easier for players in the forestry industry. The new method can save both time and money compared to today's system, while contributing to reduced emissions and environmental benefits. In the national final, he competes for the SKAPA prize of SEK 500,000.
- A worthy winner, who with a high-tech innovation contributes to both customer benefits and climate-related profits, says jury member and business developer Jörgen Steen, Dalarna Science Park.
Angelica Ekholm, CEO of Dalarna Science Park and one of today's prize givers, is happy that the SKAPA prize draws attention to new innovations from the county.
- It's really fun to be able to highlight an award winner that is not only high-tech, but also shows an impressive degree of innovation. They really put Dalarna on the map and inspire future entrepreneurs, she notes.
The jury's reasoning
With his combination of technical competence and a genuine interest in forestry and sustainability issues, Pontus Lindberg has developed a system for the timber measurement of the future. The system is based on advanced image processing with higher accuracy than today's measurement systems. This creates the conditions for responsible forestry while at the same time contributing to reducing fossil emissions during transport.
