At Anpassarna Gunnérius in Hedemora, solutions are developed that give people with disabilities greater freedom in their daily lives. The company has grown steadily over the years, but its driving force has never been to become the biggest. The goal is to constantly improve. When the company participated in the HIT (Sustainable Innovative Growth) innovation program, it gained new tools to develop its operations and confirmation that it was already on the right track.
Room for long-term development
At Anpassarna Gunnérius, problem-solving is at the heart of everything we do. The company develops and customizes vehicle and workplace adaptations that enable people with disabilities to travel, work, and live more independently.
In the spring of 2026, brothers Henrik and Andreas Gunnérius participated in Dalarna Science Park’s HIT development program. For them, the program provided an opportunity to take a step back and give thought to issues that otherwise tend to be overlooked.
New Perspectives on Development
The program sparked curiosity about new, innovative ways of working—especially when it comes to AI. What was initially met with some skepticism has become a practical tool in everyday work. Today, they use AI to summarize and find relevant information in extensive documents, freeing up time for other tasks.
“We see AI as a resource—a tool that allows us to work smarter,” says Andreas Gunnérius, and Henrik agrees.
Meetings with other companies facing similar challenges have also been valuable. Discussing solutions within the network has provided the brothers with both inspiration and new perspectives.
When Everyday Life Moves Too Fast
“Another major benefit for us was that we had time to take a step back and really talk to each other about the company’s values, goals, and long-term development. These issues hadn’t really been a priority before,” says Henrik Gunnérius.
In a workday filled with customer interactions, projects, and quick decisions, it’s easy to get bogged down in day-to-day operations.
“We often get very focused on the here and now. There are so many exciting projects underway that it can be hard to look beyond them,” says Andreas Gunnérius.
The fact that both brothers participated together was a strength. The car rides to and from the meetings provided opportunities for conversation, new ideas, and joint decisions. Since completing the program, they have, among other things, started holding weekly strategy meetings, compared to just a couple of times a year previously.
A Corporate Culture That Endures
At Anpassarna Gunnérius, caring for employees has long been a natural part of the business. Participating in HIT provided a broader perspective on sustainability and confirmed that the company had already made significant progress in addressing the social dimension.
“Our greatest asset is our employees. If our staff isn’t doing well, the company won’t do well either,” says Andreas Gunnérius.
This is also evident in practice. Employee turnover has been virtually nonexistent during the company’s 50-year history. The Gunnérius brothers see this as proof that they are on the right track.
Better to be the best than the biggest
Although the company has grown significantly in recent years, its ambition remains the same.
“Better to be the best than the biggest,” say the Gunnérius brothers.
This is evident in how they develop their business and interact with both customers and employees. For Anpassarna Gunnérius, success is not primarily about size, but about quality, a long-term perspective, and the desire to constantly improve—even just a little bit—compared to yesterday.
