The SKAPA Prize is Sweden’s largest innovation award, designed to support inventors in developing their ideas. The award is sponsored by the SKAPA Foundation, which was established in 1985 in memory of Alfred Nobel. Since its inception in 1986, the foundation has recognized and celebrated Swedish innovators and entrepreneurs, with a focus on creativity, drive, and the ability to bring ideas to life.

The initiative is supported by Almi Företagspartner AB, Vinnova, and the Swedish Inventors' Association, among others. Since 2022, Dalarna Science Park has been the competition organizer for Dalarna County.

Each year, a regional winner is selected, and the Governor of Dalarna presents the award. The regional winner advances to the national finals, which are held in November.

Apply for the SKAPA Award 2026

Do you have an idea that could change the world? A solution no one else has thought of, or a product or service that could be the next big hit? Then it’s time to show what you’re made of. Over half a million kronor is waiting to be awarded to Sweden’s most innovative ideas. Now you can apply for the 2026 SKAPA Award, Sweden’s largest innovation prize.

Here’s your chance to compete for:

The SKAPA Prize: 500,000 Swedish kronor.

The SKAPA Award for Young Innovators: up to 250,000 Swedish kronor.

The application deadline is May 31, 2026.

Here's how it works:

  1. Regional Level
First, a regional jury selects two candidates from each county for both the SKAPA Award and SKAPA Talent. The jury consists of representatives from county administrative boards, Almi Företagspartner, Science Park, inventors’ associations, and other regional organizations. In Dalarna, Dalarna Science Park serves as the competition host.
  2. National Level
In the second stage, the national jury—composed of the board of the SKAPA Foundation—assesses which innovations are most deserving and have the greatest commercial potential. The jury evaluates factors such as creativity, commercial potential, international opportunities, profitability, and societal benefit. The idea must also align well with the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

  3. Award Ceremony The award ceremony for the regional winners will take place this fall at the County Governor’s Residence. The national winners will then be announced on November 12, 2026, during the SKAPA Innovation Mingle at the National Museum of Science and Technology in Stockholm.

Each regional winner will receive 10,000 SEK and will advance to compete for the national prize money.
