DalaCapital invests in Stackship, which strengthens European data sovereignty and resilience

Stackship

The Dalarna-based company Stackship has secured a 500,000-krona investment from DalaCapital. The funds will be used to launch the company’s platform, which enables developers to build and run software on their own infrastructure or in a cloud environment, with full control over data and operations.

Stackship, founded by Pontus Hjort and Marcus Westin, is developing a software platform that makes it easier for organizations to manage and run modern applications without becoming dependent on cloud providers. The platform can be installed either on-premises at the customer’s site or in various cloud environments and is complemented by technical support, consulting services, and training.

The company’s vision is to contribute to a stronger European digital infrastructure where businesses and organizations can develop and operate world-class software while retaining control over their data and systems.

“We want to enable developers and organizations to build modern applications without relinquishing control over their own infrastructure. With the right tools, companies can both boost their innovation capabilities and strengthen their data sovereignty,” says Pontus Hjort, CEO of Stackship.

The investment from DalaCapital will be used to accelerate the market launch and continue the development of the platform.

“Stackship addresses a pressing issue in European digital development. Many organizations want the flexibility of cloud services while retaining control over their data and systems. The team behind the company possesses both technical expertise and a clear vision,” says Angelica Ekholm, Chair of DalaCapital and CEO of Dalarna Science Park.

Anders Hjertberg, business area manager at LF Dalarnas and a member of DalaCapital’s investment council, sees the investment as an example of how regional innovation can contribute to major technological shifts.

“Digital infrastructure is a strategically important issue for both businesses and society. Companies like Stackship demonstrate how advanced technology can be developed regionally while also reaching an international market,” says Anders Hjertberg.

From a broader perspective, the importance of strengthening Europe’s digital autonomy in a changing world is also highlighted.

“Given the current global situation, Dalarna and the EU must develop their own digital systems. Stackship is one such system,” says Birgitta Sacrédeus, chair of the Regional Development Committee and member of the EU Committee of the Regions.
