As the innovation arena for the whole of Dalarna, Dalarna Science Park is constantly working on new ideas. We do this through various development projects and by supporting companies with processes for progress and improvement. New innovative startups take place in our incubator and existing companies can enable their work to become more innovative and sustainable. Something we know is crucial for both survival and growth.
With the experience of the last few years and the crises that have followed one another and are still happening, we have all realized that there will not be one new idea that solves everything, not one company that solves all the problems of tomorrow and not one government that fixes our challenges. No, many different solutions will be needed, at different levels. Because the truth is that we are facing challenges that are bigger than we can see on a daily basis. From new green solutions for energy supply, manufacturing and transportation, to innovative solutions to cope with our ageing population and our welfare diseases, we also need to be creative in how we solve skills shortages in everything from the public sector to our major industries. In many cases, the urgency is urgent and the list of challenges is long.
We in Dalarna will do our bit, we will enable new innovations for a sustainable tomorrow to become reality. Historically, our region has contributed to innovations such as Gustaf de Laval's steam turbine and separator, Christopher Polhem's Machina nova and, in the present day, Åke Hörnell's reflective welding glass, Christina Lampe's safe lithium-ion batteries, Linnea Falkinger's cashew meat and much, much more. Inventions from Dalarna throughout history are numerous.
We know that Dalarna is currently at the bottom of the list of regions' innovation index, and we want to help change that. Mainly because we have to, we have to contribute to the challenges we face, but also because it would be fun to climb the list of innovative regions. At Dalarna Science Park, we are currently working on two completely new concepts to support innovation in our county. With two different initiatives, we will find new opportunities for innovation and development.
Dalarna 24 Innovation Challenge
The Dalarna 24h Innovation Challenge is an idea marathon with the subtitle "Ideas for a brighter future" that takes place February 10-11 at Dalarna Science Park in Borlänge. It is organized by us in collaboration with Dalarna University and Hitachi Energy, and this year's edition is the very first. The competition will begin at lunchtime on Friday, February 10, with a presentation of this year's challenge - a highly topical issue where the innovation giant Hitachi Energy hopes for the students' help. The idea is that the Dalarna 24h Innovation Challenge will be followed by several, at least one per year, where the focus is to support Dalarna companies on issues that are important to them.
