Dalarna is in an exciting time with ingredients such as development, change and many opportunities. But we have identified a challenge, we also need to keep up with the digital transformation that is happening so fast now. The rapid AI development that is now underway creates many opportunities, and taking advantage of the potential of digitization is today a necessity for growth and competitiveness. We at Dalarna Science Park are therefore expanding our offer so that we can support companies and increase knowledge about digitization, so that we can build a digitally stronger region. At the same time, we see that we in Dalarna have many new opportunities linked to the area in front of us that, if we play our cards right, can strengthen the local business community, attract international players and put Dalarna on the map as a leading innovation region.
The challenge: Dalarna must keep up
Despite our strong development capacity, Dalarna is lagging behind in digital maturity. According to the Digital Economy and Society Index (DESI) 2023, Swedish SMEs are losing ground while other EU countries are moving forward. The Swedish Agency for Economic and Regional Growth's report "Företagens villkor och verklighet 2023" shows that Dalarna ranks 17th out of 21 regions in Sweden when it comes to digitalization. This is a signal we cannot ignore. If we want to remain competitive, we must act now.
The businesses of the future are digital
At Dalarna Science Park, we are therefore actively working to accelerate digital development in our region. Through seminars, workshops and individual advice, we support small and medium-sized enterprises to understand the opportunities that digitalization creates. We also know that digital transformation also creates other types of opportunities. The EcoDatacenter in Falun and Borlänge, the world's first climate-positive data center, is clear proof of how new developments can go hand in hand with sustainability and business success.
