Feasibility study - a large-scale Swedish wool industry

People sorting wool around a table.

The project is about creating a model for how we can handle Swedish wool in a smart and sustainable way by establishing a system demonstrator. The aim is to collect, process and use wool from Swedish sheep in an efficient way, turning it into a resource for both a national and international market.

Vision

We envision a future where all Swedish wool is harnessed and used optimally. The goal is to build a domestic industry where every part of the wool contributes to a sustainable economy. In the long term, it is about creating a strong and circular Swedish industry that uses the value of wool both in Sweden and abroad.

By building a so-called system demonstrator, we want to make it easier for the Swedish wool industry to grow and become more sustainable. We are focusing on creating a strong infrastructure and investing in the resources needed to make Swedish wool an important and environmentally friendly resource. This will also contribute to Sweden's preparedness and self-sufficiency.

Objectives of the project

  • Increasing competitiveness: Strengthening the whole chain from wool production to finished product, including collection, processing and distribution.
  • Raise awareness: Raise awareness of the impact of wool production on the ecosystem and Sweden's self-sufficiency.
  • Reduce climate impact: Aim to halve the environmental impact by 2035 by replacing polyester products with wool and using more Swedish wool instead of imported materials.
