Materialarenan is an initiative that strengthens collaboration between academia and industry in the field of materials engineering. The focus is on developing expertise, identifying research initiatives, and fostering innovation in Northern Central Sweden. By increasing knowledge, providing access to advanced technology, and through joint efforts, the initiative aims to contribute to a more sustainable and circular industry.
Materialarenan is a new initiative aimed at building a strong knowledge ecosystem in a field where Dalarna has historically excelled: materials engineering. Companies and academic institutions in Dalarna, Gävleborg, and Värmland will gain access to advanced equipment and opportunities to collaborate with researchers, while new educational opportunities are created in the region. The goal is to strengthen innovation, contribute to sustainable growth, and accelerate the transition to a circular economy.
The initiative is led by Dalarna Science Park in collaboration with five partners: IUC Dalarna, Dalarna University, the University of Gävle, Karlstad University, Bergsskolan in Filipstad, and Sustainable Steel Region. By bringing together stakeholders from both academia and industry, the initiative creates a platform where new solutions can be developed and tested in practice.
The aim of the initiative
The aim is to establish a strong knowledge arena for materials characterization, linking business needs with academic research. The arena will:
- Strengthening collaboration between academia and business
- Building skills and training opportunities in materials engineering
- Attracting excellence to the region
- Contributing to the development of the circular economy through new materials knowledge
- Increasing the use of advanced technologies in research and innovation
