Green Buffer's new safety solution saves lives in train accidents

Roger Danielsson

Every year, between 350 and 400 serious train accidents occur worldwide. Accidents that can have devastating consequences for people and society. Roger Danielsson and his team at the incubator company GREEN BUFFERS AB have created an innovative, patented and award-winning train safety solution that saves lives and creates sustainable travel.

Green Buffers are a completely new generation of mechanical buffers that absorb and distribute crash energy in a new way in collisions between trains. A unique and world-leading innovation that will save many lives.

- Even before the product is launched, we notice a great interest in the market. We will now launch the product in Europe in the fall of 2022. Most recently, we are participating in the Innotrans fair in Berlin where all our major customers are represented, says Roger Danielsson, Green Buffers.

The technology in Green Buffer's dampers means that in the event of a collision, the force is distributed across the entire train set and the wagons remain on the rails, minimizing the need for repair and disposal. Green Buffer's dampers can be used in both new railcars and to upgrade existing fleets. Alongside the new product, a design tool is also being launched that can be used by customers to integrate the technology into their own products.

- Roger and the team behind Green Buffers have many years of expertise and experience in rail safety solutions. They have created a unique business concept with both hardware and design tools that enable customers to design and manufacture new, but also upgrade existing railway wagons themselves. This makes Green Buffers a pioneering challenger in a market with major international players," says Jörgen Steen, Business Developer at Dalarna Science Park.

Green Buffers is part of Dalarna Science Park's incubator program, which supports start-ups in developing sustainable and innovative business ideas. Last year, Roger Danielsson and his team were awarded the SKAPA Prize, Sweden's most prestigious innovation award in memory of Alfred Nobel.

- In addition to the fact that the product itself is sustainable and can be recycled after an accident, it helps to accelerate the transition from road to rail traffic by increasing safety and reliability. A unique and important product that it will be extremely interesting to follow out into the world, says Jörgen Steen.
