Starting August 12 of this year, the EU’s new PPWR regulation will take effect. It applies to all types of packaging and packaging waste. For companies that develop, use, or place packaging on the market, this means new requirements for recycling, reuse, and circularity, but also opportunities to strengthen their competitiveness. What do you, as a business, need to consider and do?
The transition is a challenge for many companies
PPRW entails both stricter requirements and new opportunities for companies throughout the value chain—from manufacturers and material developers to importers, distributors, and recycling companies.
Many small and medium-sized enterprises lack the resources, testing environments, and support needed to navigate the new regulatory framework while also making the transition to more circular solutions. This often leads to caution. Innovation is slowed, and the potential of bio-based and resource-efficient solutions is not fully realized.
By fostering collaboration among companies in the value chain, we can develop solutions together and better meet the new requirements. This creates the conditions for strengthening both the companies’ competitiveness and Dalarna’s position in the transition to a more circular economy. This is where the “Circular Packaging Chains” project comes in.
Network for Knowledge, Collaboration, and Development
The project brings together stakeholders from across the value chain in Dalarna, Värmland, and Gävleborg who develop, use, or market packaging. Participating companies will have the opportunity to share experiences, understand how PPWR affects their own operations, identify new opportunities for collaboration, and explore solutions together with other stakeholders in the value chain.
This strengthens companies’ ability to navigate the transition to more sustainable and circular packaging, while collaborations are emerging across both industry and county boundaries. The goal is to enhance competitiveness and work together to develop the packaging solutions of the future.
Make PPWR a reality!
We are now looking for companies in Dalarna from across the value chain that want to gain a better understanding of what PPWR entails and that want to help shape the packaging solutions of the future within our networks. You may be a producer, brand owner, manufacturer, importer, distributor, or other stakeholder who develops, uses, or markets packaging
. Together, we can be part of the solution and strengthen our competitiveness.
